Why do we, as humans, seem intent on destroying the environment of the very planet that enables us to live?

Each day billions of people contribute to the ruination of the habitat that the majority of plants and animals need to survive. How many can say that they have improved the ecosystems of the world?

I would like to state here, clearly and with purpose, that the needs of the planet must come before the needs of each person. The loss of one person, one elephant, one termite, one tree or blade of saw grass will not measurably impact the world as a whole.

The repeated loss of entire species, forests and wetlands will, and has, begin to effect the system as a whole. The repercussions of things we have done are felt in the next generation.

We can not reverse extinction. We can not call a do over when patients can no longer be treated with antibiotics because infectious bacteria has become immune from overuse.

This is not an afternoon soap opera. When an ecosystem is devastated, it does not come back from the dead after the summer hiatus.

Please, please do not tell me that it is God’s will and that the will of God will never take me where the grace of God will not protect me. I see us headed for a place where there can be no protection.

If you believe that the Earth is a gift from God to mankind, can you not see that mankind has tossed it aside and we are playing with the box?
